1. What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis and one of more than 100 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant, known as cannabinoids. Extracted from the hemp plant, CBD is one of the most well-known cannabinoids because of its wide range of benefits and ability to help other cannabinoids interact effectively with the endocannabinoid system.
The human body naturally produces cannabinoids which are referred to as endocannabinoids. These compounds work in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to maintain homeostasis (balance) by binding with receptors. Cannabinoids, like CBD, can imitate endocannabinoids by interacting with the receptors and helping send signals to the body to improve health and overall balance in the system.
2. Is CBD the same as Marijuana?
No. While they are both from the cannabis plant, they are cousins, with different potential effects and benefits. Both CBD and marijuana contain cannabinoids, which are chemical compounds that interact with our body's endocannabinoid system. However, the main difference lies in the levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), another cannabinoid known for its psychoactive effects.
While marijuana is primarily used for recreational purposes, CBD has gained popularity for its potential therapeutic benefits such as pain relief, reducing anxiety and depression symptoms, alleviating inflammation, and improving overall well-being. Marijuana typically has high levels of THC, which is responsible for its psychoactive properties, while CBD is derived from hemp plants and contains only trace amounts of THC.
3. Will CBD get me high?
As previously mentioned, hemp typically contains very low levels of THC (0.3% or less), and does not produce psychoactive results. CBD can be combined with other cannabinoids, like cannabigerol (CBG), to create an entourage effect, where compounds from the cannabis plant may work synergistically to enhance the overall therapeutic benefits.
4. Is CBD legal?
The 2018 Farm Bill confirms all derivatives, isomers, and cannabinoids in hemp are legal. However, all final products must contain 0.3% or less of Delta-9 THC.
5. How do I find the right CBD product for me?
Finding the right THC product will depend largely on your needs, wants, and preferences. Available in edibles, flower, tinctures, skin care, and more, it’s a matter of determining what effects you’re hoping to achieve, and your preferred method of consumption.
Many customers find personal guidance helpful in determining which products work best for them.
