The best CBD drinks to replace alcohol are the ones that match the drink you are replacing: a CBD sparkling water instead of a hard seltzer, a CBD brew or non-alcoholic beer instead of a cold one, and a non-alcoholic sparkling rosé or spritz for a toast. CBD drinks contain no alcohol, and CBD on its own does not cause a high. Hemp THC drinks are alcohol-free too, but they are intoxicating, so they are not a sober choice. Whatever you pick, start low, go slow, and never mix any of them with alcohol.
In This Guide
If you are cutting back on drinking, or taking a month off, the hardest part usually is not the alcohol. It is the ritual: the cold can after work, the glass in your hand at a party, the toast at dinner. CBD drinks and other alcohol-free options give you something to reach for in those moments. Below, we break down the main types of CBD drinks to replace alcohol, how they compare, and how to pick the right one for your night.
Why So Many People Are Swapping Their Drinks
Drinking less is no longer unusual. In 2025, Gallup reported that just 54% of US adults say they drink alcohol, the lowest share in the poll's history. People cut back for all kinds of reasons: better sleep routines, training goals, saving money, or simply wanting to remember the whole evening.
What most people do not want to give up is the social part. That is why drinks that look and feel like an evening drink, without the alcohol, have taken off. CBD seltzers, CBD brews, non-alcoholic beer and alcohol-free sparkling wine all let you keep the ritual without the alcohol.
What Makes a Good Alcohol Swap
There is no single best drink for everyone. These four questions will get you to the right one fast:
- What are you replacing? Swap like for like. A hard seltzer drinker will be happiest with a CBD sparkling water; a beer drinker, with a CBD brew or NA beer.
- What is on the label? Check how much CBD is in each can, the calories, and for NA beer and wine, the ABV.
- Is it intoxicating? CBD on its own does not cause a high. THC does. That difference matters a lot if you are doing a sober month.
- Does the brand share lab results? Look for products with clear labels and published testing.
CBD Seltzers and Sparkling Waters
CBD seltzers and sparkling waters are the closest swap for a hard seltzer or a vodka soda: cold, bubbly, light and easy to hold all night. CBD (cannabidiol) comes from hemp, and on its own it does not cause a high. Many people simply like having a crisp, flavored can that feels like an evening drink.
CBD Brews and Non-Alcoholic Beer
If your go-to is a cold beer, a non-alcoholic brew is the most familiar swap. Today's NA beers are brewed to taste like the styles they are based on, from hoppy IPAs to crisp lagers and malty ambers. One thing to know: in the US, a drink labeled non-alcoholic can still contain a trace of alcohol, less than 0.5% ABV, so read the label if you want zero.
Want CBD in the can too? Golden Hemp is a non-alcoholic, lager-style brew with 20mg of CBD and 10mg of CBG per can and 10 calories. It sits right between a beer and a CBD drink, which makes it one of our favorite CBD drinks instead of alcohol for game day.
Prefer something lighter? Match Day Light is a pale ale at 35 calories and 0.3% ABV, and Victory Wheat is a crisp NA wheat beer with added electrolytes and vitamins.
Non-Alcoholic Wine and Spritzes
For dinners, toasts and celebrations, a non-alcoholic sparkling wine or a ready-to-drink spritz fills the glass without the alcohol. Leitz Sparkling Rosé comes in easy-to-share cans from the Leitz winery, and the Highr Negroni Spritz is a non-alcoholic take on the bittersweet Italian classic, made with L-theanine, raspberry leaf and passionflower. Our selection of zero-proof wines and spirits changes by store, so call ahead if you are looking for something specific.
Hemp THC Drinks: Alcohol-Free, but Not Sober
Hemp THC drinks contain no alcohol, but THC is intoxicating, so they are not a sober option. People often report that effects take 30 to 60 minutes or longer to show up and can last for hours, which is very different from a beer. For adults who are comfortable with THC and live where these drinks are legal, they are one more alternative to alcohol on a night in.
Federal and state rules for hemp THC products are changing in late 2026, so check the current rules where you live, and expect product availability to change. For a deeper look at how THC drinks compare with alcohol and kava, read kava vs alcohol vs THC drinks, or browse our THC beverages.
Read the THC amount on the label and sip slowly. Effects can take an hour or more to show up, so wait well past that before having more. Do not drive, and never combine THC drinks with alcohol.
Kava and Kratom Drinks: Other Alcohol-Free Options
Kava and kratom drinks are two more alcohol-free options people reach for. They are their own categories, separate from CBD, and you will find them in their own collections.
- Kava comes from the root of a Pacific Islands plant that has been shared at gatherings for centuries. Many people describe feeling relaxed, social and clear-headed. Ready-to-drink kava seltzers are the easiest way to try it. Read our guide to kava as an alcohol alternative or shop the kava collection.
- Kratom comes from the leaf of a Southeast Asian tree and is now sold in ready-to-drink seltzers and sodas. People describe kratom differently depending on the strain. Kratom is not legal in every state, so check your local laws before you shop our kratom beverages.
Never combine kava or kratom drinks with alcohol, and keep them separate from THC drinks so you know how each one affects you.

Sober October and Dry January
Sober October and Dry January are month-long breaks from alcohol. Go Sober for October was started in the UK by the charity Macmillan Cancer Support, and Dry January was started in 2013 by Alcohol Change UK. Both now have plenty of followers in the US, either as a strict month off or a looser "drink less" goal.
If your goal is a fully sober month, stick with drinks that are alcohol-free and do not cause a high: CBD sparkling waters, CBD brews, and non-alcoholic beer and wine (check the ABV if you want zero). Hemp THC drinks are alcohol-free but intoxicating, so they do not belong in a sober month. Kava and kratom drinks are alcohol-free too, but they do affect how you feel, so decide whether they fit your goals.
-
Stock the fridge first
Having a few good alcohol-free drinks on hand beats deciding in the moment.
-
Pick a signature drink
A favorite CBD seltzer over ice with a citrus wedge, or an NA beer in your usual glass, keeps the ritual intact.
-
Plan the social nights
Bring your own drinks to the party, or order first at dinner so no one has to ask.
-
Tell a friend
A sober month is easier with company, and someone might join you.
Planning ahead for January? Our Dry January guide has more alcohol-free ideas for social nights, including kava mocktails made with juices and sodas only.
Start Low, Go Slow
Start low, go slow is the rule for every functional drink, whether it has CBD, THC, kava or kratom in it. Here is what that looks like in practice:
-
Read the label
Check how much CBD or THC each can contains, and the ABV on NA beer and wine.
-
Sip and wait
Wait at least 30 minutes before having more of a CBD or kava drink, and well over an hour for a THC drink.
-
One at a time
Try one functional drink at a time so you know how each one affects you.
-
Check with your doctor if needed
Talk to a doctor first if you are pregnant or nursing or take any medications, since CBD can interact with some medications.
Do not add CBD, THC, kava or kratom drinks to alcoholic drinks, and do not drink them on the same night as alcohol. Choose them instead of alcohol, not with it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best CBD drinks to replace alcohol?
It depends on what you usually drink. If you reach for hard seltzer, try a CBD sparkling water or CBD seltzer. If you like beer, try a CBD brew like Golden Hemp or a non-alcoholic IPA. For toasts, try a non-alcoholic sparkling rosé. Whatever you choose, start low, go slow.
Can CBD drinks replace alcohol?
Many people use them that way. CBD drinks contain no alcohol and fill the same spot: something cold to sip after work or at a party. They will not feel like alcohol, and CBD on its own does not cause a high.
Are non-alcoholic beers completely alcohol-free?
Not always. In the US, a drink labeled non-alcoholic can contain less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, and some are labeled 0.0%. Check the label if you want zero.
Are THC drinks a sober alternative to alcohol?
No. Hemp THC drinks contain no alcohol, but THC is intoxicating, so they are not a sober choice. If you are doing Sober October or Dry January, skip them. If you do choose one where it is legal, start low, go slow and never combine it with alcohol.
Can I mix CBD drinks with alcohol?
No. Do not combine CBD, THC, kava or kratom drinks with alcohol. Choose them instead of alcohol, not alongside it.
What should I drink during Sober October or Dry January?
CBD sparkling waters, CBD brews, non-alcoholic beer and wine, and sparkling water with citrus are all popular. Our non-alcoholic beverages collection has options for every kind of night, from game day to a dinner toast.
